One of our goals in 21st Century schools is to have our students become creators of compelling, meaningful, and media-rich content. My session will inspire teachers to take a traditional project--the book report--and have their students dig deep into the text and think big by creating a high-interest, authentic, real-world product.
Based on the the Buck Institute’s framework for Project-Based Learning, and closely tied to many CCSS ELA standards, this session will provide teachers with a ready-made instructional unit to teach literary adaptation in the language arts classroom. This unit would incorporate close reading skills based on a core-literature selection or a student-chosen title, and can be easily scaled to any grade level. Google Apps for Education bring this unit to life, and will be spotlighted in this session, but are not required.
Resources will be provided, including the lesson plan, sample videos, worksheets, slideshows, links, and curated samples of student work.
